"I had a really weird dream last night" — The Boy
As we were driving to school this morning, The Boy told me that he had a “really weird dream last night.” I asked him if he remembered any of it. He said he remembered all of it “because it wasn’t that long” and then took about 10 minutes to tell me what it was, which boiled down to this: (Imagine the voice and excitement of a 9 year old) “You know how...

My favorite part of Tuesday was sleeping in my bed for the first time since last Wednesday night (We were in Chicago Thursday to Sunday, and I didn’t manage to fall asleep at all on Sunday night). Which is also why last night’s Favorite Part was “delayed” as I crashed on the bed sometime around 9pm on Monday night.

Boxcar is a notification system for iOS, which is also now available for the Mac. you can have all sorts of things send notifications, but the most popular are Twitter posts, replies/mentions, or DMs. I’ve been playing with it recently on my Mac to see if I can use it replace some things I’ve used email for in the past. You can assign different sounds to different notifications. For...

sblaufuss: vegkat: tj: Saturday at dinner, Beefranck, Lindstifa, Vegkat and I were talking about the April CHSH and how crazy it was with so many people, and how we didn’t get to meet many new people because there were so many people to meet. Vegkat said, “I wasn’t planning to go, Bridget brought me with her at the last minute. All I remember is someone rubbed her boobs on mine.” Lindsay:...

AYFKMWTS, Officer?
or: “How to fix the wrong part of the problem” I drop off The Boy at school every day. He is now in 3rd grade. He started there in Kindergarten, so this is actually his 4th year (K+1+2 = 3 years). One of those 3 years, they were renovating the school. When they renovated, they added a row of parking spaces in front of the school. Why? Because in the mornings, people would park...

The Boy
(for those just tuning in… The Boy started 3rd grade on Wednesday, and then skipped Friday so we could go to CHSH. He fell asleep in the car around 11pm last night, and I woke him at 8am for school). A few minutes later he wandered into my room, rubbing his eyes. “I thought we said that I would be too tired to go to school…” “Nope. You already missed 1 out of 3 days, you...

Home is where the heart is
Today was spent at Casa de Lindstifa, with The Boy watching Family Ties on Netflix and the adults generally being low-key. Tucker (Lindsay’s puggle, for those who don’t know) is made of pure boundless energy, but even he sensed that today was a quiet day, and spent quite a bit of time curled up next to me on the couch. Everyone seemed quite content and happy. A nice end to a great...

Me: did I see that you are doing a marathon in January in Chicago??!??! Kris: no no, it’s just a half marathon. Me: right, but it’s still in January and in Chicago? Do you run in snowshoes?!

everythinginthesky: “I can’t tell you how many people have told me that they just don’t get “Lost in Translation.” They want to know what it’s about. They complain “nothing happens.” They’ve been trained by movies that tell them where to look and what to feel, in stories that have a beginning, a middle and an end. “Lost in Translation” offers an experience in the exercise of empathy. “When you tell us it’s wrong to report on gay public figures, you are telling gays not to come out of the closet and journalists not to report the truth. (What you’re telling us as gay journalists is even worse.) When you insist being gay couldn’t possibly matter less, what you actually insist is that the subject never be brought up in the first place.” — From “Computer press so liberal it...

The best part of my day was when The Boy told me that he didn’t need me to walk him into school on his first day. I want to say that it was also the worst part, because I was sad that he didn’t need me to walk him into school on his first day. I think this is where I say “And so it goes…”

ashamedtosay asked: Hi TJ! One of my staff started doing the standing desk thing at work using a microwave box, anyway, I know there is an ap for standing desk where it logs how long you stood, do you know what it is? I want to encourage him, it seems to be helping his back. If it works, I am definitely getting another staff member one of those balls with a handle to sit on/move about the cabin in.

The Boy had to come with me to the office today. It would have been better for everyone if I had just worked from home, but The Powers That Be prefer to have me in my office when it’s officially open. So I went into the office and spent most of the time listening for The Boy, to make sure that he wasn’t causing problems or having any. (He wasn’t, but that doesn’t change the...

See?! Everyone wins!

“There is nothing more underrated in this world than taking a great shit.”
