How to Use Tags in Tumblr (if you want)

I love the idea of tags for website posts, I just never tend to use them, partially because in my experience I’ve always found that I end up with several which are similar but not the same.

Tumblr gets around this by offering an autocompletion of tags you have used before.

You can find these one of two ways:

1) Type a letter or two in the “Tag This Post” box and pause, and Tumblr will show you other tags that you have used that start with those letters.

2) Type a new tag, ending with a comma or hit Enter/Return, and Tumblr will show you a list of all the tags that you have used.

(If you end a tag with a tab it will jump down to the “Set a custom post URL” field.)

Even so, I tend to ignore/forget about tags (auto-generating tags is probably the best way to get them used), but these are the ones that I have apparently used:

• Jesus
• nsfw
• iPhone autocorrect
• explainingthejoke

Seems about right.
