This is the kind of thing that drives me nuts.
I read this and I think “Dammit, that has just been sitting there for someone to think of, and he thought of it and I didn’t.”
It works even if you don’t know what a “malted” is (was?) but it works even better if you do.
It’s not part of or a play on a “meme” or a derivative of another joke with a twist. It doesn’t depend on your job, being in a relationship, or having a kid. It’s straight up cleverness with the language.
This is the kind of humor I love, even if it does drive me nuts whenever someone else thinks of one before me.
Adam’s one of a small cadre of people on the twitter who write these on a regular basis. I think I follow them all (if anyone knows someone I’ve missed, let me know).
