Below is the actual text of an email sent out to alert us of a flash flood warning:

Flash Flood Watch in effect through late Thursday night, The NWS in charleston has issued a Flash flood watch for portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio, Southwest Virginia And West Virginia, including the following areas, In Northeast Kentucky, Boyd, carter, Greenup And Lawrence ky. In southeast Ohio, Athens, gallia, Jackson Oh, Lawrence Oh, Morgan, Meigs, Perry, vinton and Washington. In southwest Virginia, Buchanan And dickenson. In West Virginia, Barbour, Boone, Braxton, cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, harrison, Jackson Wv, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, mason, Mcdowell, Mingo, Nicholas, Pleasants, Pocahontas, putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Taylor, tyler, Upshur, Wayne, Webster, Wirt, Wood And Wyoming.

OK, so, first of all, what is with The capitalization?

“And” should not be capitalized any of the three times it is.

“carter” should be.

After “In southeast Ohio” why are “gallia” and “vinton” not capitalized and Jackson and Lawrence both get “Oh” added?

Harrison, Dickenson, Cabell, Mason, Putnam, and Tyler should be.

Through late Thursday night
Localized downpours are expected through Thursday night. Rains of 2 to 3 inches in a few hours could produce flash flooding along small streams and creeks. A quick inch or two of rain could result in nuisance problems, Such As Flooding of streets and in poor drainage areas.

Again What is With The Capitalization Of Random words?

Most of the time, It Will Not be raining, But When It rains, It Could Easily be a downpour.

There Will be Rain. Sometimes. When It is Raining. (WTF?)

Those that live along flood prone streams should heighten their weather awareness.

Those “who”.

They should “heighten their weather awareness”? Really? What language is that?

Monitor water levels periodically, If downpours are observed.

Check water levels. If it rains hard.

Precautionary/preparedness actions,
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding on small streams. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
