You can only get 30 seconds in a ringtone, so I had to kind of guess here:

How It’s Done
1) Download YouTube video. There are lots of apps for this, but I use youtube-dl because I am an enormous nerd and I can use it while ssh’d into another machine.
2) Launch Audio Hijack Pro and tell it to “hijack” QuickTime Player (I told it to record as .mp3 for simplicity’s sake)
3) Play video you downloaded in step one in QuickTime Player (you could use VLC or any other video player for for steps 2 and 3)
4) Open the file you made in step #3 in Fission
5) Select the part of the recording that you want (less than 30 seconds)
6) “Save as iPhone Ringtone”
There are probably ways of doing this on Windows too, but I’m thrilled to have no idea what they might be.
There are probably other ways of doing this on the Mac too, but this was the software that I had available to be. Because I am a giant nerd.
