Birdhouse gets 4 mice up in Macworld
Unfortunately, an editorial oversight led them to print “You can’t post directly from Birdhouse”, which is completely and entirely 100% wrong in every way. That is, the one purpose the app most definitely serves—that of the ability to save and post to Twitter—has been reported incorrectly. (Way to go, Macworld editors!) But we’ve been in touch and they have promised to print a correction as soon as possible. (Thanks, Macworld!)
Sweet Holy Moses, are you kidding me?!
There is a PUBLISH button which is VISIBLE FROM THE SCREENSHOT.
And that error message? Caused my bring to PUBLISH something which was TOO LONG.
I was ready to blame this on Mr. Friedman, but when you visit the macworld.com/4989 link you get a larger article written by him where he says:
And if you decide to pull the trigger, there’s also a Publish button which requires a second tap to confirm that you’re ready to share your brief missive with the world.
It seems clear that the original author of the article understood that you can publish with Birdhouse. In fact the draft that you can see in the picture was published a week before the Macworld.com version of the article.
So it appears some anonymous copyeditor for the print version mangled this, probably misunderstanding this sentence from the original article:
[Birdhouse is] meant to be used in tandem with your “regular” Twitter client, since Birdhouse can only be used to write posts, not read them. No, I’m not joking.
Sounds to me like someone read that as “You can use Birdhouse to write, but not post” when it says “write but not read“…
Related, it’s after 2am and I’m wide awake researching 4th degree tangents of stuff I read on Tumblr. I wonder what normal people’s lives are like…
UPDATE: it’s even worse and more obvious. The first line of the Macworld.com version of the article says:
In a Twitter-friendly 140 characters, Birdhouse focuses solely on drafting, editing, and posting tweets, but not for reading them.
Emphasis added.
