On Scotch
Natalie and I are convinced that the one thing holding us back from TRUE awesomeness is the fact that we are not Scotch drinkers. We are going to attempt to become Scotch drinkers. There are a few problems with this, not the least of which is the fact that I am a lightweight who cannot handle the taste of hard liquor. Natalie can drink Gin, so she is more badass than myself, but whatever, I’m working on it.
Many of you, notably @tj, have posted pictures of what I think may be Scotch. Please guide us. Also, I don’t think Scotch and Gin need to be capatilzed, but I prefer it. Help?
Help you like scotch? Easy. Drink 18 year-old. Smooth as melted butter. Cheaper scotch is harsher. Also, it depends on the brand. I like Macallan.
Failing that, cut it with a bit of water or an ice cube. Purists will recoil in horror. Fuck ‘em.
(I should also remind you that I dislike both coffee and beer.)
You might also want to work your way up wish an Irish Whiskey like Jameson’s. There’s also bourbon, like Maker’s Mark. Don’t be surprised if you only like one of the three.
Also, there may be a pop quiz on the difference between scotch, bourbon, and whisky, as well as why some people spell it “whisky” vs “whiskey” and why it’s important.
Finally, you are right, “Scotch” and “Gin” don’t have to be capitalized, as they refer to beverages, such as “coffee” or “beer” or “vodka”. If you were using it as a brand name, such as Johnny Walker Scotch or Jameson’s Irish Whiskey, then it should be capitalized.
