Where do they get these announcers?

(Football gripe ahead… sorry for those of you who don’t care.)

U.Florida played Mississippi State U tonight. It was an ugly game, and UF was lucky to win.

UF had gone ahead by 9 points and missed a point-after (1 pt) which are usually a “given” when one of the announcers said, “Not that it matters.”

Um, what?

If you’re ahead by 10, the other team has to score twice to tie (field goal = 3, touchdown = 7). They could go for a two-point conversion to win, but two-point conversions are difficult, and if you miss it, you lose.

If you’re ahead by 9, the other team can score 3 field goals to tie OR can score twice to win (field goal = 3, touchdown = 7).

So missing that point-after was a big deal, and the ESPN announcer didn’t even mention it, and, in fact, downplayed it…

You’d think a guy calling the number one college football team would be aware of that… but you’d be wrong.

(I expect the Gators to be anywhere from 1st to 3rd when the BCS rankings are announced for this week.)
