If Men Could Menstruate

poeks shared a thoughtful article by Gloria Steinem on the issue, which you should read.

However, my first reaction was that if men could menstruate, hysterectomies would be more common than circumcision, and the population of the world would shrink by about 95%.

The procedure would be fully funded by the government, easier to schedule than an oil change, and techniques would be perfected to such a degree that it would be considered minor surgery with few side effects.

Assuming that did not happen, and men went through it just like women do now, I suspect it would also have an interesting effect on the way that abortions are viewed and made available. But that’s another issue.
