Tumblr, inc. announced today that they are going to start “phasing out all authenticated requests for API v1…”
The API is what I use to post to
and I am not sure if it is going to be possible to continue to do so once they make these changes.
It is also not clear exactly when Tumblr is going to shut this off. Could be tomorrow. Could be September.
If you notice that one of the sites listed above stops updating, please let me know at http://funsizebytes.com/ask.
There should be a new post every 15 minutes, so it should be fairly easy to tell when it gets shut down.
Not to be alarmist, but when Twitter made a similar switch, it was the beginning of the time when they started to control what you could and couldn’t do with Twitter. If Tumblr is going down the same road, it could mean that tools and services that you enjoy are no longer going to work, and might not be made able to work with the new changes.
If I can move it over to the new system, I will. I’m just not sure I’ll be able to, at least not yet.
