  • &*!#(*%&!(*#& [This is a nerd rant post]

Let me start by saying that Squarespace is probably the best place out there to start a Web site that you care about and don’t want to build on top of something that’s going to fall over at any moment or run by people who don’t consider you a customer (i.e. Tumblr).

That’s said, I’m fed up and think I’m quitting Squarespace.

First I reported a problem to them a few months ago when posting from MarsEdit. They have acknowledged the problem but haven’t fixed it, and the problem (to me) is as simple as a single digit in their API response which is not giving the correct information.

Then there’s the new Squarespace 6, which seems like it will be awesome, but at the moment all of their new themes are built around the idea that these are going to be photo blogs.

You can change some things, but you can’t get in and edit the templates, which means that you’d better love what they have, because you can’t do anything else.

Squarespace 6 also doesn’t work with any 3rd party apps, such as MarsEdit, but it is supposed to work with their own iPad app.

Except that the iPad app told me that my 600 word, text only, Markdown-formatted post was “too complex” to be edited in their iPad app.

Most irritating at all is the fact that they require a separate account for each domain name that you have there. This means that I have had two Squarespace accounts because I had two domains there. But now with Squarespace 6, they require me to have two new accounts which are then linked to the old accounts.

Which means I now have 4 Squarespace accounts.

I’m so confused that I can’t even figure out how to log in to the correct account anymore.

So I just emailed them and told them I want to cancel and get a refund.

Maybe I’ll try them in a few months, but for now I feel like I’ve just been wasting my time with them because they were supposed to be better, but for me, they aren’t. At least not right now.
