  • A few weeks ago I was out of town for a few days. I grabbed breakfast at a restaurant and headed to the conference.

When I went to register, I couldn’t find my wallet.

I knew I had just had it at the restaurant, and hadn’t gone anywhere else, but I couldn’t find it.

Did I leave it at the register? Drop it in the parking lot? Or, now with winter weather having arrived, maybe I had just put it in one of the many, many pockets and couldn’t find it.

“I need something like Find My iPhone except for my wallet…” I thought to myself.

A few days later and completely by coincidence, I learned about Wallet TrackR, which is like Find My iPhone, except for your wallet.

Now, I see a lot of Kickstarter projects, and most of them are good ideas that are probably unobtainable. I was afraid this one was too, but their manufacturer has agreed to share the costs with them, which means that instead of needing to hit $250,000, we now only need to reach $35,000… and they are already over $34,000.

So I’m passing this along in case anyone else is interested. (Warning: I’ve been told that their promotional video is terrible. I haven’t watched it. I just read the description.

I don’t “get” anything if you sign up for this, it’s just something I think is a cool idea that I thought you might like too.

~What is a Wallet TrackR?~

The Wallet TrackR fits easily into any wallet - just like a credit card. When combined with the free Wallet TrackR iPhone app, it becomes a powerful new tool to keep you from losing your wallet. When the Wallet TrackR gets separated from your iPhone or iPad, the Wallet TrackR app gently alerts you that you may be leaving your wallet behind.

The app also takes a GPS snapshot of where your wallet was at the moment of separation in case you didn’t hear the alert. Tap a button within the app to make your wallet “ring” in case your looking for it around the house or in the dark. The technology works both ways, which means your wallet can beep to alert you that you’re leaving your phone behind. Works with your iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, new iPad, iPad mini and the new iPod Touch.
