And just like that some one got all Jesus on my facebook page.. and about FARMVILLE none the less.
Yes I like to play farmville. Its an addiction and I am getting help. Maybe. By playing more farmville.
Lindsay: Ask your friend what what eggs have to do with Easter?
I’d be interested to see his/her answer.
Do you know how to calculate the date for Easter?
The canonical rule is that Easter day is the first Sunday after the 14th day of the lunar month (the nominal full moon) that falls on or after 21 March (nominally the day of the vernal equinox). For determining the feast, Christian churches settled on a method to define a reckoned “ecclesiastical” full moon, rather than observations of the true Moon. Eastern Orthodox Christians calculate the fixed date of 21 March according to the Julian Calendar rather than the modern Gregorian Calendar, and observe the additional rule that Easter may not precede or coincide with the first day of the Jewish Passover. In modern language, this definition is best described as: Easter is the Sunday following the Paschal Full Moon date. The Paschal Full Moon date is the 14th day of the calendrical lunar month which begins on or next after March 8 and, for the years 1900 to 2199, can be found in Tabular methods. Wikipedia
In other words: Easter is determined by making sure that it nearly coincides with the coming of spring.
You know why we have an Easter bunny and eggs? Because bunnies like to have a lot of sex and they are a good symbol of “new life”. And hey, you know what, Christians have a celebration of new life. So let’s combine them.
Your pagan spring festivals of “Hey, the weather’s turning nice, let’s have sex” coordinate with Easter because the Christians wanted it that way.
Or, to put it another way: THEY WERE !&#(&@ “SPRING EGGS” BEFORE THEY WERE “EASTER” EGGS.
Eggs have nothing to do with Easter any more than Frosty the Snowman has to do with Christmas.
It’s not unlike the decision to put Christmas near the winter solstice because the days start to get more light and there was already a pagan festival around that time.
It’s also not unlike Martin Luther (the guy who “Lutherans” are named after) making church hymns to the tune of songs from taverns. You know why?!
BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT PEOPLE ALREADY KNEW THE SONGS.
If that doesn’t make you smile a little bit, you better shove some termites up your ass because otherwise that stick is never going to come out.
