Because bunnies like to have a lot of sex and they are a good symbol of “new life”. And hey, you know what, Christians have a celebration of new life. So let’s combine them. Your pagan spring festivals of “Hey, the weather’s turning nice, let’s have sex” coordinate with Easter because the Christians wanted it that way. Or, to put it another way: THEY WERE !&#(&@ “SPRING EGGS” BEFORE THEY WERE “EASTER” EGGS. Eggs have nothing to do with Easter any more than Frosty the Snowman has to do with Christmas. It’s not unlike the decision to put Christmas near the winter solstice because the days start to get more light and there was already a pagan festival around that time. It’s also not unlike Martin Luther (the guy who “Lutherans” are named after) making church hymns to the tune of songs from taverns. You know why?! BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT PEOPLE ALREADY KNEW THE SONGS. If that doesn’t make you smile a little bit, you better shove some termites up your ass because otherwise that stick is never going to come out.
