- Sarah Palin was a concern from the beginning.
- Sarah Palin didn’t know Africa was a continent.
- Sarah Palin was angry about the way that she was handled.
- Sarah Palin refused prep work for the Katie Couric interview.
- While the storyline has been that the economy was what sunk McCain, Fox News, let me repeat that: FOX NEWS, said that Obama’s numbers started to rise 4 days before Lehman Brothers, in the aftermath of the Katie Couric interview.
The McCain folklore will be that it was the economy that sank their campaign.
But it was, in no small part, due to the fact that Palin couldn’t even handle herself against KATIE FREAKIN’ COURIC.
Note that the public line about why Couric wasn’t given any interviews included the word “deference”. As in “we won’t give her any interviews until she’s treated with the proper deference.” The truth now appears to be that she wasn’t ready, and refused help getting ready because she thought she could handle it.
The first clip that most of us saw about Palin was that she didn’t know what the VP did. That clip was from July. In the last few weeks of the election, she said what she thought the role of the VP was and she was completely wrong.
That Palin has energized the (ultra) conservative wing of the Republic party says a lot more about them than the “real America” who voted, overwhelmingly, for Obama.
They don’t care that she’s not qualified. They don’t care that she’s not knowledgeable. They don’t care that she can’t handle an interview with a fairly minor TV newsperson.
She hits all the right buzzwords (although her answers on abortion were, at face value at least, pro choice rather than “let’s make abortion illegal”. So she either meant that (and therefore is pro-choice) or didn’t (and therefore is willing to say whatever she thinks she needs to to get more centrist voters).
Palin’s medical records, as far as I have seen, still haven’t been released. I saw a 2 page cover letter from a doctor, but have not seen any real disclosure. Please tell me if I’m wrong
