  • Rachel reminded me of this quote, which I wrote about awhile ago:

“A good church man is always up in everybody’s shit. — Deacon”

I think that may be the best line from The Wire, period.

Related: I may need to cut back on my The Wire viewing.

Why? Oh no reason. Certainly not because I saw a police car pull up and yelled out “Po Po!” as I surreptitiously emptied the contents of my pockets into the storm drain.

Which prevented them from grabbing me up while carrying 3 cough drops, a Field Notes book, space pen, and some iPhone headphones.

Then the light turned green, the police car drove away, and there I was, looking like damn fool.

  • Larry Gilliard Jr. — better known to most Internet Geeks And Fans of The Wire as [D’Angelo Barksdale] — was on a random episode of Law & Order Criminal Intent.

Which wasn’t nearly as weird as when he played a cop — a cop named “Omar Lilly” — on CSI NY.

He played Eddie Roberts. Eddie Roberts talked about himself in the third person. Eddie knew that the secret to a productive life was not getting involved in any romantic entanglements. (Sadly for Eddie, this left him without an alibi for the night in question, but I digress.)

Anyway, the paper is going fine. And I learned how to combine two pictures into one, which I think we’ll all agree is the more important issue anyway.

  • Would you believe that it isn’t until the second episode of the fourth season (“Soft Eyes”) of The Wire that we first hear the quintessential 8-second expletive from Clay Davis?

Our research team has been hard at work and this is the first occurrence we can find.

Also, if you’re responsible for the closed captioning, how do you just leave it at 4 letters?

  • The Wire, s02e07, “Backwash” Scene time: 49:10-49:46*

Full exchange:

Bunk: “We all got roles to play.”

Freamon: “What’s your role?”

Bunk: “I’m just a humble motherfucker with a big-ass dick.”

Freamon: “You give yourself too much credit.”

Bunk: “Okay, then. I ain’t all that humble.”

If this isn’t the most quotable show in all of history, I don’t know what is.

  • Well, it looks like I need to add
“Meet @frageelay”
to my to-do list.

Don’t be afraid to get in there and use some tongue, dear.

(Context: this
and this and The Wire, s05e06, “The Dickensian Aspect”.)
